Whole idea of bomber is a fragile hard hitter able to choose range and float undetected near enemy fleet. But:
- They are not hard hitters, most of them are just 2 cruise launchers with no rof bonus whatsoever. Check dot on tarantis at least
- Speed bonus while cloacked is a JOKE, because first of all even 300m/s is way way way to slow in a world of eve's instans and 150km snipers
- Moreover, since you can't warp in cloacked enemy will spot you and you wont be able to close in.
- Even more stupid is the fact that cruise missles actually operate on long range and fly fast, so you dont really fly to get in range, you just shoot and missles will be faster
- Which leaves your bombers as a "defencive"/camping weapon. Then you shoot first and
cloack to avoid enemy fire, BUT then you need fast lock and with cloack fitted you have terrible resolution
- Not to mention the recalibration which absolutely totaly makes it unusable to uncloack and shoot
So there is nothing left from the original idea, except fragile.
To be used as intended bombers should:
- Use short range extremely damagin slow missles, at least citadels or better special new bombs with huge rof and very short range
- Ability to target imediately after unclocking and have resolution bonus
- Have very short targeting range around 10km, overwise why close up with cloack at all?
- Have much greater bonus to cloaked speed, so they could move around at least 700-900m/s
- Have agility and warp speed of a cruser and sig of a hauler
PS Right now I think they are good painters: no cloack though, then you have fast lock and very good locking range. Nothing else.
PS On a second thought they should have an ability to target whie cloacked and keep that lock, but have low resolution, so they wont be able to fight small targets, but if they can close and be undetected they can use that time to lock.
Should be like a submarines in WW2 - you can see through the periscope and target huge ships with "one shot - one sunk" torpedoes, but you need time and if destroyer is near and "breaks you cloack" you are toasted.
